General

1. What is World Entrepreneurship Day?

Simply put, World Entrepreneurship Day (WED) is an annual day of celebration with the mission of connecting the world’s entrepreneurs through a “24 hour entrepreneurial blitz.” It will be celebrated through events, socials, creative “e-diffusion” activities, and research-sharing. It will be celebrated by companies, colleges, K-12 schools, organizations, and individuals. It will take place for the second time on April 16th, 2010. Its purpose is to remind the world that entrepreneurs have consistently led sluggish economies back into prosperity through innovation and job creation!

2. When was WED founded?

The inaugural WED was celebrated on the 2nd Friday of April 2009 – 4/17/09. 22 countries and 22 US states joined the celebration.

3. How does WED benefit the world?

WED will benefit the world through three mediums: inspiration, connection, and enlightenment.

Inspiration. Most news you see, hear, and read about lately covers the economic meltdown.  From the increasing suicide rate to the soaring unemployment, the media doesn’t seem to be displaying anything but despair right now. WED is a direct “call to action” for those who are fed up with this economic and world turmoil.

Connection. Through our website, our Facebook fan page, our  Twitter, and through the local events, entrepreneurs around the world will unite in “world rejuvenation” and learn from one another’s experiences.

Enlightenment. By sharing valuable entrepreneurial research on our website and our social networking groups, WED will enlighten entrepreneurs across the world. For example, many people do NOT know that the best time to start a company is during a recession.

4. What are the benefits of participating in WED?

Entrepreneurial organizations and individuals around the world will be participating in inspiring, unique, and “purple cow” activities to raise entrepreneurial awareness. With expected media coverage from around the world, you and/or your organization can be part of something BIG. Moreover, with millions of people laid off from their jobs, you can be an integral part of an inspiring initiative.

More specifically, if you think volunteering as part of WED’s Leadership Team would fit your goals and aspirations, there are endless benefits – both for your resume, for your personal development, your global network, and experience. Please apply here.

Also, with our  Idea Packet, we make it easy for your organization to have an IMPACT on its students, members, or employees.
